How To Boost Your Mental Health During Covid-19
It’s easy to feel stressed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our daily lives have changed and we have had to adapt to life in lockdown. We now wear masks in public, wash our hands thoroughly and practise social distancing. We are protecting ourselves and our families as best we can from contracting the virus.
Our mental health is just as essential as our physical health. People may start to feel anxious, worried or depressed during Covid-19. This is a time of high uncertainty for many of us. We may be worried about our health, our families and our jobs. How can we look after ourselves mentally during the Covid-19 pandemic? How do we stay as calm as possible during such uncertain times?
Here are some tips to boost your mental health during Covid-19:
Create a routine. Having a routine that you stick to each day is useful. When you create a routine, you will feel more normal and in control of things. You will feel less stressed when you have a set daily routine.
Practise being more mindful. Be more present each day. In this highly stressful time of the Covid-19 pandemic, you should take the time to look after your body. Get lots of sleep. Look after yourself as much as you can.
Start meditating, stretching and taking deep breaths. Let go of your anxious feelings. You will feel calmer and happier once you rid your mind of all your anxieties and concerns.
Spend time growing your spirituality.
Eat healthy meals often.
Exercise often. Did you know that physical exercise is a vital part of boosting physical and mental health? Make the time to exercise.
Phone your friends, family members and colleagues. Keep in touch with your loved ones as much as you can. Speaking to them will help you feel more connected to them despite not being able to see them.
Set aside time for doing work.
Spend time doing the things that you like. Give your family members at home quality time.
Don’t use alcohol and drugs to deal with fear or boredom.
Create a list of all the things that are going well in your life. Do this each day. Keep focused on the positive things in your life.
Support the people in your life. Be there for them and listen to them.
Limit how much news you watch each day. Watching a lot of news about Covid-19 may make you feel even more stressed. Try watch the news just once a day if necessary and get facts from reliable sources. Be aware of the fake news that is out there when it comes to Covid-19.
How much time do you spend looking at your screen? Make sure that you have a lot of time which doesn’t involve screen-time. Read a good book instead or start a veggie garden. Do something constructive.
